On behalf of our statewide membership, we negotiate terms and conditions of employment. Our responsibilities to our membership include: negotiate collective bargaining agreements with the State of New Jersey, represent our members in administrative proceedings, and contract arbitration and grievance litigation. The Association was founded in 1989, when the New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC) certified our status, pursuant to law, as the exclusive majority representative. We were then known as the New Jersey Superior Officers Law Enforcement Association—Captains Unit (NJSOA-CU). On March 20, 2008, PERC issued an official ruling changing the name of the Association to the New Jersey Law Enforcement Commanding Officers Association.
